Hello everyone,

we are currently planning the stair lighting in our new building. Currently planned by the developer is a wall-mounted light fixture in the middle of the staircase. The staircase itself is a shaft staircase with white risers.

Personally, we find step lighting much more stylish. Therefore, we have planned 5 spots. (1x left, 3x long side, 1x right) per staircase.
Now we wonder whether this will be bright enough in terms of lighting. It is supposed to replace the main lighting and not just be ambient lighting.
Can someone give me a recommendation on this?
Thank you all

That is a matter of taste and also depends on the type of lamp. What I personally like (but that is my taste) are LED strips under the steps. You can choose the colors as you like (depending on the mood) and of course also the brightness. And if you like, of course also from abroad via Mobile Phone.

Is this relatively easy to do yourself? I could imagine that the electrician charges a fortune for it...

I think that is it, although I would work very carefully on it so that it looks good or practically invisible afterwards. It is important to understand, however, that both the LED strips and the step lighting are precisely meant for that, namely to illuminate the area where one walks (steps). The whole room is not supposed to be lit up, and in terms of walking at night, honestly, that would be way too much for me. That’s why I would illuminate the steps (with strips or small wall lights) and additionally choose a "normal" lighting.

Actually, I would have preferred to leave out the wall light, but then the spots should be a bit brighter, right? Additionally, the question arose whether the last spot on the right side would not cause glare when walking straight towards it. Thanks again for your help

You usually use these recessed spotlights with a trim for that, so that the light only shines downward. This way, it does not dazzle the person climbing the stairs.
