I also struggle with lamps: we have wall outlets on the left and right side of the bed - maybe I'll find suitable reading lamps with a swivel arm and an on/off switch near the head for under €100.
A bedside or reading lamp is slowly becoming a hate topic for me.
We had found one (or rather two) lamps that we liked. After not even half a year, the lampshade fell off, although I don’t even know how I touched the thing. Of course, it broke. So get a replacement. The furniture store where we originally bought the lamp no longer had it on offer. Search via internet: Porta still sells it. OK - the nearest Porta is at least 200 km away. BUT there is one near my parents’ house in my hometown. So my parents got the lamp.
Four weeks ago the same mishap. The lampshade broke again. Only this time Porta no longer has the lamp either.
So far, we have not been able to agree on a new lamp. Too ugly, too expensive, or only one party likes it.
So currently I am reading with the "pure" LEDs.
My wife made the suggestion - when we then have the new side lamps, I can take the two LED stumps up to the attic and attach them to my planned workbench so that it is well illuminated.
Isn’t she a treasure :p.
Above the dining table, we have temporarily hung a lamp from Ikea for €5.99. I think it will still be hanging there in 19 years.
As long as I like it, I wouldn’t care if it costs €5.99. I would probably even be secretly happy that something I like was available cheaply.
