Seriously: of course it depends on the floor plan. We have the open space at a 20 sqm hallway. That looks very good there

That’s just not possible! You obviously have to tear it down immediately...!

Of course, it depends on the floor plan, and a 20 sqm hallway is already quite a size. But in the “standard” house sizes of 140-180 sqm you don’t have such large hallways; on the contrary, one tries to keep them as small as possible. And then in my opinion open spaces and galleries simply don’t work. Something like that needs a spacious, airy floor plan. And you have to want that and be able to afford it. In other words, you need at least a 1000 sqm plot and the financial power for a 500k€ house

Although I have also seen floor plans for 300 sqm houses that then had huge, elegant hallways, galleries and open spaces, but only a single children’s room of (no joke) 12.5 sqm!!! Not even a guest room! I would have given the architect a good kicking with those plans!

But that doesn’t really help the OP….

Thank you for the first responses. €1100 surcharge for calcium silicate bricks is too expensive for us. If there is an additional surcharge for 2 doors, we are easily at a total of €2000 - and I don't know if it's worth it. Does anyone have experience with gypsum plasterboards with styrofoam on the brick walls. Could that bring more benefits?

You will also be able to greatly reduce the sound through carpet, plants, curtains, furniture, wallpaper.

There are many prefabricated houses with far less than 20sqm of ceiling openings/galleries that look good. I cannot understand the 300sqm limit.

With us it is only about 10sqm. We have seen model homes with 12sqm and found it nice
