@Brombadegs:

A solar system is used for hot water – either with or without heating support. If you want to generate electricity, you need a photovoltaic system.

For the reasons you mentioned, I also see no point in a solar system, since the sun is usually only present when you do not or hardly need it for hot water.

hi,
thanks - I’m much wiser now. Do you have any idea how much a system for our power needs would cost/could cost?
Thanks Bromi

I am still at the beginning of my planning but have already found a few nice things.

Towards midday sun, i.e. south. Depending on the longitude, a different inclination is necessary. I read somewhere about approx. 30° inclination. However, this depends on the location. Smaller deviations should not be a big deal. With southeast or southwest orientation, 90% should still be possible.

Those are my informations so far. I haven't checked them yet. First I have to plan and finance the right house.

I totally agree. The whole mix has to be right! So basically, a solar system is worth it if the other components are coordinated with it or are already available. This naturally includes very good insulation so that as little heat as possible is lost. The builder would install a 300-liter storage tank for you, which is definitely fine. Even if four people live in the house, that amount is more than enough for everyone to shower.

Of course, you have to be aware that such a system only amortizes after about 10 years. Only then will you really save money. The better solution is, of course, to install everything immediately (pipes, cables, etc.); then you won’t have such a mess in the house afterwards.

Yes, I would recommend everyone to install a solar system if it is financially possible.

The better solution would probably be to use the investment for the solar thermal system to permanently reduce the demand (additional insulation).
For reasons of economic efficiency, I see it quite differently.
