From this perspective, a sliding door running along the wall gives you less space. A normal door usually only opens into the traffic area, a sliding door takes away a parking spot on the wall.
I see it differently now. The normal door doesn't just open exactly 90° and then stop. It still covers space that becomes unusable as a result. Whether the door is open or not. A sliding door, possibly with a clean cover, probably takes up about 1/10m², I wouldn't even declare that as something to plan for.
That you often feel you could have done without the door is almost normal. But what matters is the one time when you have to close the door. Because then it really becomes impractical with a "hole." So, be glad that you planned a door.
