I would have trouble pushing that through so coldly. I mean, we are talking about living space. In this case, something like that causes people real existential problems. A granny flat is still an apartment, is still an apartment.

My property is still my property and remains my property. And I do with my property what I want. To me, my own wallet, my own family, or something else is still much closer than any tenant living in my apartment. Tenants are being pampered and coddled so much that property rights currently take a significant back seat.

And because of such an attitude (which I do not even want to judge, because I can also understand a lot), I would not want to move into such an apartment at all. The owner is practically hanging over your kitchen window, watching to make sure you use the extractor hood, don’t heat too much, and always ventilate properly. The landlord forgets that by renting out, he gives possession to the tenant. In contrast, as an owner I would have no interest in moving back into a property inhabited and used by a tenant without first investing again.

Maybe. Egoism rules the world. I think that's terrible.
I am often ashamed to have sold a 110 sqm apartment for €700K. To a single person who is single, close to retirement, lives abroad, and is only looking for a second home to spend a few months with the family in Germany.
Other people, however, do not know how to afford housing.
Probably I am no better.

A free handling of property does not justify irresponsibility. However, I also think that no one here means that. There is increased capability for action with [Einliegerwohnungen] and with furnished apartments anyway. This is a fundamental advantage for the owner. How this is then used and what openness there is beforehand can still be arranged fairly despite that. I will no longer rent out individual apartments, as I have had the experience of being at the mercy of a non-paying tenant. Either furnished or at least 5 units for risk distribution.

This is not egoism. Here in Germany, tenant protection comes above all.

That is not due to the small landlords who only have one or a few apartments. There is a lot wrong in politics.
