What is stopping you from hiring a MyHammer craftsman?

Hi,

we have a small extension on the roof that was damaged. We had several alternatives shown to us, one of which was standing seam:

We then decided on a different alternative, but maybe it's interesting for you.

From my point of view: that the result would look bemyhämmert (botched). A roof covering is, in my opinion, "master craftsman required," either you hire him as a craftsman or as an expert; the former is cheaper. Because if an idiot put on the sheet metal, then it's pried off, and besides the labor, you can also write off the material as a loss.

In terms of statics, the sheet metal is not demanding, but in terms of flatness. The combined laying and shaping work is what makes a sheet metal roof covering expensive. It is labor-intensive. With roof tiles, the roofer can also employ his freshman apprentices, with sheet metal not. This applies even more strictly to an older roof truss. Wood works; in 43 years, relevant unevenness accumulates, which gets lost in the small-scale structure of a roof tile covering.

That should also explain the "rest." The most likely high costs are the learning costs, see the beginning of this post.

If you want sheet metal because it looks fancy, the "more expensive because sheet metal" should not surprise you; if you wanted sheet metal because you naively hoped it would be cheaper, then you miscalculated.

I also don't understand how one can use the "Handwerker"resterampe myhammer as a benchmark for cost calculations.

Oh, as an index for the red flag when an offer is definitely to be distrusted, yes.

Of course I can also try MH and specify/consider it exclusively for master tradesmen - when offers come in you can check what kind of business it is - I wouldn't award it to just anyone.
During the gutting, that worked out well and I didn’t take the other companies that came and seemed "shady2".

The roof only has a 10-15 degree pitch, as I understand it, tiles are out of the question there.
There is forest to the back and to the south, a photovoltaic system will be installed on the roof which basically covers everything - so the roof doesn’t really need to be "particularly fancy" in terms of appearance, the look is not the primary reason here.
Currently there is a corrugated roof on it and a sheet metal roof seems suitable overall. What we have seen around here looked okay overall.

Basically, I just found it somehow quite expensive "for sheet metal" with 170-200€ per m2 for just covering without insulation, rafters, etc..., compared to tiles it has less "manual work" since it has large surfaces - well, on the other hand, you say it needs to be processed more precisely.

Let’s see what the written offer says later and what other roofers offer.
