Hello everyone,
during the construction of my house, the sidewalk slabs were damaged by excavation work done by the companies.
The city already asked me in November 2019 to make the sidewalk "safe" again.
In the last 2 years, there were several reasons not to focus on the sidewalk... but this year would be the time to pave my driveway, etc.

Now some resident reported me to the city and of course took pictures of it.
Therefore, I also received a letter from the city with a deadline of 10 days to have the sidewalk fixed :-)

10 days?
Is the length of the deadline legally valid? I will call some companies and ask, but I don’t think I will even get an appointment on site within the next 10 days.

And yes, maybe I let the issue slip, but I really intended to finally tackle it this year.
What would you do?

Request an extension of the deadline?

Can you just call, do the servant, and ask for an extension.

After 2.5 years, I can also understand that the neighbors and the community are no longer so amused. Whether you wanted to do it or not doesn't matter either. After such a long time, surely none of the neighbors or the community believe that anymore.

You have already let a deadline of almost 2.5 years pass. Do it immediately and be glad that you don’t get a fine. Entirely your own failure ;). "Maybe also neglected" is put nicely. If the city had taken 2.5 years for your building permit, what would you say then? You can try your luck with the city regarding the extension. But you should show your good will and at least include an offer.

Or the city does it, has it done, and sends you the bill…

Ok you are right, of course nothing happened in the last 2.5 years. An offer was obtained back then.... but it was simply not implemented. But I have never received a deadline before. This is now the first deadline and only 10 days. A company just told me that they can't even manage to send an offer in 10 days :) Thanks for your opinion

Are you supposed to make the path only "safe" for the time being? Maybe that can be achieved with a temporary solution. I would ask your nice [Bauträger / GU / Architekt] if they know someone who can lend you some steel plates or something similar for that long.
