Hello,

we are currently building a house or rather: having one built. Soon it will be time to finish the bathroom. It has a rather peculiar shape with a light well about 4 meters high. The room can best be imagined in the shape of a boot.
The shower will be located directly in the 4-meter-high area. I would like to know if it is possible to build the shower on a podium about 60 cm high (thus accessible via two steps) and if a drawer as storage space can be integrated under the podium? And how to best approach something like this. I have attached a sketch for illustration. As mentioned, the area above the shower is about 4 meters high.

Regards,

Bene

Understood. Basically, it is possible if the shower tray is still firmly in place and the drain is secured – meaning building a solid level: the tray on top, the drawer underneath. You won’t get away with just 2 steps. Why do you want to put a tripping hazard and obstacle in front of the shower? Because of the drawer idea? I don’t think the idea is good at all. Regards

Yes, it is about creating storage space since we cannot fit a cupboard due to the peculiar room shape. And personally, I don't find base cabinets particularly attractive. By the way, I don't see it as a tripping hazard/obstacle at all. I also have a staircase in the house. Two steps for 60cm are usually enough. I only need 3 risers of 20cm each. Two stepping steps are sufficient, and the third is simultaneously the shower tray.

Hi,
that could already look pretty stylish and cool, kind of James Bond style. However, I would also say that you’re inviting a nasty tripping and slipping hazard into the house. Tiles are often quite slippery with wet feet. I think you can expect to one day land badly on your backside there.

As I said, basically a cool idea, but probably not really practical...

Best regards,

Andreas

The stairs are dry, the shower is wet. There are DIN standards for steps that adapt to the human stride; all other heights (whether lower or higher) have tripping potential. I wouldn't simply dismiss that. Do you possibly have the option to install wall cabinets above the door? For towels, I also always find an open shelf above the door good :)
