Should the base layer for the garage floor slab be filled only with concrete!?

Hello everyone,

I removed the rusted metal stop rail in the old building. Meanwhile, a rolling gate has been installed, so the rail is actually no longer needed. However, I drive over the step with the car. Is it sufficient in the long term to fill an old wedge (see picture gap) exclusively with concrete, or will it crumble? Who has experience? The metal rail or L-profile measuring 7cm x 3cm might rust again or become loose? What is the best solution?

Regards, Chris

A solution made of steel is certainly the most durable. Quasi a ramp. It can be galvanized, so it won't rust. The solution made of concrete certainly won't last very long, but it can be made quickly and the costs should be under 10 Euros. You could also do it more often.

The question is why does the whole thing made of concrete not last that long and what does not long mean in terms of time when going in and out 3 times a week? With the angle iron, I have the edge protection but also 2 materials and when driving over it, the whole thing possibly jerks loose. Then water and frost come into play and the whole thing cracks and disappears?

What is the best way to do it or is an L-angle iron even good or is a 5mm iron levelled properly sufficient and better? When plastering, I fear that in the end there is no bond and it crumbles away?

Regards Christian
