Think about the initial equipment (including furniture, stroller, car seat, etc.). You can easily spend quite a bit of € if you want. For us, it was around €3-4000.

Don't take the individual items but rather these: 400 € then you're doing quite well. It's difficult to stay below that, upward is all open. Whether part-time works, whether you get a daycare spot immediately after 1 year, those are more important questions, so either have 10,000 € in reserves for 3/4 months without the woman's income or plan for this. In Bavaria, it's absolutely not a given that you get a spot. That's what the "herd premium" is for :(

Wasn't there something like a legal right to a daycare place? Has that not yet been implemented in Bavaria?

So we always have a reserve of around €10,000 anyway, you never know what might happen. We are lucky to be able to involve the grandparents in an absolute emergency, but that would not be our preferred scenario. But thanks for your feedback - it gives me the feeling that my calculation is not completely wrong and that I can consciously take the risk. 100% security and house building just don't go together ;)

You have a nationwide right to "care"; that doesn't automatically mean a daycare center, but can also be a childminder.

The problem is just the "good" daycares, and childminders are not exactly bored right now either

Of course you can sue, and you have to, but then you have to "take" what the office offers you... :(

There are still private daycares in larger cities, but often they cost double or more than a facility run by the city or a church/social organization.
