for the area around the windows we need to plan a privacy screen/shading. I don't like curtains in the traditional style, you have the drapes and then differently colored curtains over them. above the window the mounting, a piece of wall and then the ceiling... so I don't like that. but my wife also doesn't like blinds, she thinks it looks too much like an office.

what else can be done, I also don't want bare windows?

Hello Basler,

if you like textile privacy screens, there are several alternatives to the usual curtain style.
If you like curtains but not the usual curtain rod mounting, you can plan the mounting to be invisible. The curtain rollers then run hidden in a groove in the ceiling. However, as mentioned, this must be planned so that a sufficient groove can be created.

Furthermore, there are panel curtains that can be pulled in wide fabric panels (without folds) in front of the windows, similar to boards. This looks modern without seeming like an office. Depending on the transparency of the individual panels, color or light effects can occur. You can also pull two or three panels on top of each other, completely covered, half covered...

I have sliding curtains in different levels of brightness. The sliding elements run on three tracks in a flat rail, which barely takes up space. Depending on my needs, I can completely cover the window or only where I need privacy or shading, and the possibility to slide up to three elements over—better said, in front of each other—results in varying degrees of opacity. I am very satisfied with this solution.

Vertical blinds! At first glance, they also look like office blinds, but they are very practical and available in many colors and patterns. The track is flat and can also be hidden in a suspended ceiling. You can position the slats parallel to the window for good shading, and control the shading steplessly at any angle. Even if the slats are perpendicular to the glass, you still have privacy because you cannot see into the room from an angle, while still maintaining a good view. The usual curtain-drama was too old-fashioned for us.

I am really into curtains and there is a really large selection here. We also change them during the year and now we have winter curtains. These create a good cozy atmosphere. The curtain fabric is thicker and in a nice light brown. In spring, the colors are then stronger and the fabric is more translucent.

I also don’t like bare windows. We have curtains on every window. They are also regularly renewed. We also change them in summer and winter. In winter, we also use [Übergardinen].
