Hello everyone,

I need your expert advice and say already: 1000 thanks!

The problem:
An exterior wall of the basement (calcium silicate brick) has become leaky over the years and during rain (especially when it rains a lot and for a long time) water presses through the wall from outside. Insulation from the outside is unfortunately only partially possible because part of the neighbor's garage borders the exterior wall and excavating there is accordingly not possible. So now it must be sealed from the inside.

The question:
How is it best sealed from the inside?
Some say with silicate boards from the inside, because they absorb water during rain and give it off to the outside again during dry weather.
Others say with sealing slurry (+ insulation layer + stone wall), because then during rain simply nothing gets through anymore.
What is probably the better solution?
And what would be the disadvantages of the respective other solution?

Your solution:
?

Many thanks and have a nice evening!

Nothing comes from the inside. The water will rise by capillary action. But calcium silicate boards are good for starters. The wall must permanently have air access from the inside if the water supply is not turned off and then dried mechanically.

Best regards

Injection method with water glass is rather the method of choice. Putting something on the inside does not solve the problem. Where you can reach, I would also seal from the outside.

Just purely heretically logical: if water enters the wall and is only stopped at its interior surface, then it is trapped inside the wall instead of exiting back to the room side and evaporating or being drained otherwise. So you are just locking it inside the wall and turning the wall into a sponge. It wants to leave again and will move into adjacent areas when the sponge is saturated. Whether hard to reach or not: water ingress must be stopped "at the source," otherwise your wall will rot away. Merely suppressing efflorescence on the interior surface will not dry out the wall: it remains wet and practically radiates moisture, even if it no longer appears in droplet form. Find the entry point – it is probably at the transition between the neighboring garage's roof and your house wall (and should also cause similar damage inside their garage). Is the drain from the neighbor’s garage roof possibly clogged?
My reading tip would be:
