I have the wall covering lying in the new house, but have not processed it yet. However, it is definitely doable yourself with very thin tile adhesive and a pressing roller. Cost around €40/sqm plus adhesive.

Sorry for the expensive suggestion.. cement plaster or lime-cement plaster are also hard and durable.
