Morning,

I have a garage attached to the residential building with a 3.3 m continuous interior wall height and a hipped roof on top. I wanted this height because either a mobile single-column lift or a parking lift will be used in the garage. The roof was built as a cantilever with a substantial beam that protrudes from the residential building.

A normal sectional door would limit the height of the garage behind the garage door to 2.5 m (clear opening height), so that doesn’t help me.
A sectional door with a ceiling track is also not possible because of the hipped roof.

Therefore, basically only a roller door or a side sectional door remain.

Both are quite exotic in private residential construction, so I can’t find any experiences with them.

Has anyone installed one of these candidates? Are there any notable manufacturers besides Normstahl and Hörmann? Or any ideas or suggestions?

For me, it currently looks like this:

Roller door:

+ simple technology/low maintenance
+ inexpensive
+ very compact
- slow
- painted slats will sooner or later be scratched
- overall appearance

Side sectional door:

+ very fast
+ door function
+ elegant design
- very expensive
- the wall it runs on must remain free

Like a barn door with two wings that swing outward? It can also be installed with an electric drive and remote control. You just need space in front of the garage.

Hello,
I would take a roller shutter, e.g. (Roma) aluminum slat foamed and anodized, not coated.

BEST regards Rene

Hello,

we have a dark grey sectional door that is 5.50 meters wide, and yesterday my husband noticed in direct sunlight and about 18 degrees Celsius outside temperature that the door bent completely outwards and he was able to fit his whole hand into the gap that formed as a result.
Have you ever seen anything similar with dark, large doors? I have heard about it, but apparently our door is specially reinforced so that it shouldn’t happen....

Not noticed, no, but we have already been warned several times and were advised to choose a version with more corrugations.

: Orientation of the gate? At your place it probably faces south, otherwise hardly any sun would reach it there?
