Hello everyone,

we are currently building a single-family house and have used recessed downlights with a diameter of 180 mm for the basic lighting (arrangement according to the following plan). Now we are looking for suitable built-in spotlights. What luminous intensity would you recommend per spotlight so that you can see well, but it does not appear too glaring? What beam angles would you suggest so that the floor does not look patchy?

We would be very grateful for your experiences and recommendations.

To avoid having it only in spots, I would take 120-150 degrees. Apart from that, the question is allowed whether you have also planned "normal" lamps. I just find the spot planning simply terrible (far too many and unnecessary and uncomfortable).

In the dining room and living room, regular ceiling lamps are also planned. In the other rooms only spot lighting (at the mirrored cabinet, bedside lamp, at the extractor hood, ...)

Then please give some thought to different lighting in the other rooms. Ceiling spots do make a room bright, but they neither create coziness nor a pleasant atmosphere. Think of - floor lamps - table/sofa/window sill lamps - wall lamps - indirect lighting - accent lighting - you can even plan candles Spots are actually only used if you - bluntly put - just want it to be bright. But there are plenty of situations in the house, especially in the living room, where spots simply fail (spots are not the solution for almost all situations).

I am not as "anti spot" as others here, but basically the order is wrong.

You go from
- Desired brightness in room X
over
- Desired lamp
to
- Number and position of the lamps

not the other way around. You then have to take into account the light cone and "where obstacles protrude" (shelves, people, extractor hoods...)

Otherwise, I am for 24V dimmable spots. Either in warm white or tunable white.

I am quite satisfied with the Constaled 31639, but for that more than just the spot has to fit.

Hello,

if already implemented, then as bright as possible (lumens), as wide as possible (beam angle), and without exception dimmable. Ideally dim2warm / warmglow.

Simplest option GU10 spot holders with appropriate light bulbs (e.g. Philips warmglow 80W). If money is no object, then also spots e.g. from Occhio.

If still in planning, remove the following spots:

[*]Bedroom left and right beside bed replaced by bedside lamps or possibly pendant lights over the nightstands (nice but inflexible)
[*]Dining room all, instead pendant light over table
[*]Bathroom and WC, do not forget mirror light

The spots are only basic lighting, atmosphere is created by object lights and indirect lighting. Dimmable spots can support the latter, however, at very low dimming levels (5%).

Best regards
