Is the barn even registered in the land register?

Did the building authority know about it when they gave you the verbal approval for the rear construction?

I looked at it again. So it's best if you leave it as it is.

You write that there is a firewall between the two barn sections on the property boundary.
The firewall must first be structurally examined. If you have to put a wall in front of it for security, then it won't be easy and probably expensive. In the case of a partial demolition, you have to make everything nice for the neighbor. Roof overhang, rain drainage, foundation, roof truss, roof tiles, and a solid wall with structural engineering. Although I did everything myself back then, in hindsight it was already like a second house.

5m eaves height, 300 sqm roof area newly tiled with [Biber], total height about 13 meters, 20 pallets of 36er Poroton bricks laid, roof truss fixed,

I would still do it again.

We also have semi-detached sheds/stables in our settlement. Many have already been partially demolished on one side.

Yes, and what was then done with the other half to ensure structural stability and waterproofness? That something like this is basically feasible is no question.
