Our expenses are higher both for disability and retirement provision (about 650 euros) and for living costs. That you call 800 euros total per month “blowing” confirms my thesis that perceptions differ greatly. I find less than 15 euros per day per person anything but “blowing.” We like to cook, buy consciously and sustainably, go to the theater and – as said – also occasionally eat out well. We do excursions, I go to the stadium and so on. What might be worth mentioning: We live in a very expensive city: Stuttgart.

Then you really have a very good basis with the income. But do you, as a civil servant, need BU and AV? Or was that only related to your partner?

That is an interesting question. If you believe my older colleagues, you don't need it. But almost all under 40 see it differently. I have a special civil servant pension plan, where part of the contribution is a BU. So 2 in 1, so to speak. However, my partner rightly takes more precautions. I would still say that our base is solid. It is not very good, because we live where we live, and because our equity is still too low.

Hi, the regional factor certainly plays a role here. Stuttgart is rather an expensive area; my flat Rheinland is not so much. Many things are still bought well and cheaply here from the local farmer instead of the trendy city organic market :) Additionally, it’s a matter of personal priorities. Live a little first, or focus directly on saving for your own place? Everyone is different there. Fairly, I must also say that I additionally have employer-funded disability and occupational pension insurance; with another employer, my contributions would also be significantly higher.

I agree with you on everything. Just one thing: Stuttgart is not rather expensive, but very expensive ;)

The salaries are correspondingly higher for that. So everything is relative. And certain things cost the same nationwide, whether I earn 3000 net or 1500 gross.
