Hello,

the thing is, we are just starting with the outdoor facilities and now facing the issue of privacy screening. Our neighbor has built a wall that is 2 meters high and now we are considering whether to do the same on the opposite side – towards the street. However, it is the case that our privacy screen is only allowed to be 1.20 meters high, which is total nonsense. I might as well leave everything open. What is allowed, however, is to move it 1 meter from the street towards the property and then build up to 2 meters high.

Can someone explain the point of this? Why should I "give away" 1 meter of our property???

What could happen if we just go for it and simply install the 2 meters?

Is there a floor plan sometime? The background of the "nonsense" is apparently that the development plan prescribes 1.2 m, but after one meter it no longer applies, then state law applies and it is usually 2 m there. I have the same problem. I planted a hedge on the border. Required to be 80 cm high. Now the thing is growing and is about 2.5 m high. Nature is already mean but the municipality tolerates it.

Legally, it is of course clearly regulated and you must comply with it. But here too the saying applies: "Where there is no plaintiff, there is no judge." However, there are quite often "plaintiffs," so I could imagine building a flexible solution. Depending on the width, for example 2m high wooden posts, and then initially raising them to 120-140cm with rhombus slats. Then you can see how high you really need it. Maybe it’s not even 2 meters. I think you notice that best when building. We did it that way with us and you can anytime remove a few rows (and put them back) without it being an expensive dismantling. Besides, I find them stylish, for example in grey. We built them ourselves on simple battens instead of rhombus, it was really cheap and quite stylish. A 2m wall is like in prison, these rhombus walls provide privacy and still appear airier.

A "wild-growing" hedge is quite practical, you can simply cut it back to 1.2m cheaply if necessary....

If there were 2 meter high walls on the left and right of a driveway exit, you would hardly see anything when driving onto the street. It definitely makes sense to limit heights there.

A wall with a height of 2 meters feels like a prison. I would work with plants and smaller privacy screen elements. Also, not directly at the street, but spread over a larger area.
