Price for laundry chute

Think about 2 things before you build something like this yourself: do you have children or maybe in 10 years grandchildren at crawling age in the house who find the hatch interesting and then fall down 3 floors? In that case, there are lockable hatches for the top. Is the basement heated? If not, cold air can be drawn into the bathroom by the chimney effect. Then there should already be a tight laundry bag around it downstairs, which you only open with a zipper to take out laundry, for example.

Our flap is at a height of 1.20m and in the hallway, but it cannot be locked. However, no small child would fit in there either.

The bag will also be placed underneath - also because of sound.

I "thought" warm air rises in the chimney effect, not cold air. I don't believe that is a problem, especially if there is a flap at the top. Apart from that, a flap/a cabinet is easily replaceable with something lockable.

Our future neighbors have such a laundry chute and three little boys, real little rascals. Shortly after moving in, the two older ones first tested whether the little brother could fit through the laundry chute:


Result: the little guy fit through...


Luckily it was only one floor, and downstairs there was a box with lots of laundry. So always leave some dirty laundry downstairs

Sure, you can get through with force too - but then you might as well lock the kids up from morning till night. I designed it so that no toddler can just crawl in on their own. There’s also a limit to helicopter parenting.
