Hello everyone,

we are currently planning our new building and want to keep the option open to install a wood stove later that supports the hot water supply.

Our heating system (gas condensing boiler and solar thermal with 300L storage) will be in the attic, the wood stove would be installed in the living room on the ground floor. A ventilation system with heat recovery is also located in the attic and the ventilation ducts run in a separate shaft next to the chimney.

What can I do now to at least allow for the later installation of a wood stove with water heating?

- Are there empty conduits/hoses that I could install?
- Supply flap behind the installation location of the stove?
...?

Why?!
What savings do you hope for to even remotely justify the additional effort?
Our hot water costs are under €10 per month - not even the empty conduit is worth it.

Regarding costs/benefits, etc., we have only made superficial inquiries so far. Since these probably do not fit into our budget at the moment, we at least want to make preparations so that later it is not said, oh, if only we had...

Four copper pipes must be laid to the location where the chimney will be installed later. Two of them must lead to the storage tank. One to the (cold) water connection and one to the HT wastewater pipe. Two that go to the storage tank are the actual circulation pipes. In case of power failure or pump failure, the chimney must be able to be cooled with cold water. The wastewater is discharged into the sewer system. The pipes must have hot water insulation, similar to solar thermal. A 300L storage tank is very small for this.

Thank you for the information!

The hot water tank is supplied by the solar system on the roof. It is said to be more than sufficient for a family of four (we were told).

Sure, 150L for a two-person family without solar, 300L for a four- to five-person family with two solar collectors. Clarify this with your architect and heating technicians. The energy has to go somewhere, and whether 300L is enough for that? No idea, maybe you can talk to the fireplace seller, possibly with a small fireplace with a hot water jacket that releases 60% heat into the room and 40% hot water? I don't want to say anything wrong here.
