No one has ever lived on our building plot, i.e. existing pipes are practically "unused." As long as there are no steel pipes, they can be used without any problems according to the employee. As mentioned, it was basically about the inquiry for a pipe map, which revealed that the water association does not know exactly where and how it lies.

However, since a valve is mounted on the main water pipe and a blue water sign with corresponding distance data for the valve is located directly on our property, there should logically be an (empty) water pipe there.

Ok, with us it works differently. Technically there may be tracking devices that have such a range and that can also be rented. But I don't know.

Read again

I don’t see the compelling logic.
Are there no houses on the other side of the street? Are there no houses next to your property?
Why should a branch line go to your property if there has never been a building there?

[*]Our plot is a building gap, i.e. the plots to the left and right of us are developed.
[*]The street was redone a few decades ago and all imaginable utilities (water, sewage, electricity, gas, fiber optic, ...) are connected to all plots.
[*]In front of our plot there is a blue water sign (like at all the others as well) with position data for the valve.
[*]The sewage pipe (branching from the main sewage line via valve) lies about 80-100 cm on the property (found by exploratory excavation).

Therefore, there should (according to the water association as well) be a water pipe also going to/on our plot. There are just no exact records anymore and the employee of the water association shifts the responsibility to us, like "Well, go look for it...".

Clear now?

I don't find that so compelling, the slider could also be for the neighboring houses. I don't think they necessarily laid a branch line for a building gap as a precaution. But I'm also from Berlin. What kind of price difference does that make?

For each building plot, there is a water valve and a sewage valve on or by the street, each marked with a water and sewage sign at the respective property boundary. Hence the question of responsibilities. If a valve is installed, there is usually also a pipe connected to it - otherwise, the valve would make absolutely no sense and would be installed completely pointlessly.
