As I said, 240l! For such a bin, there is no space in our utility room. Yes, I tied the yellow one to the paper recycling bin with such bungee cords. It is already full and quite heavy. I think that holds. The fence was too far away for me, besides there are still piles of earth from the foundations. Thanks for the suggestions!
I secure the lid with bungee cords facing down overnight during storms when there is emptying the next morning and a bin has to stand outside. It's actually even easier with a ratchet strap. It can fall over then, but the contents stay inside.
It usually helps to place a buoy on the lee (=downwind side) of the house. Our buoys only fly away in very bad weather, which we actually only experience during thunderstorms. Normal storms are not strong enough here on the hill. If possible, place it in the garden shed or garage. Tie it down. Either to ground anchors or to the posts of a swing/carport/or similar, and make sure the lid opens towards the lee. Ideally, also weigh down the lid in case a gust turns nasty.
