Hello,

for cost reasons, we have planned plastic roller shutters everywhere in our new building. In the living/dining area there are 3 window elements:

- fixed glazed seating window with [Raffstore] (250cm)
- 2-leaf balcony door with roller shutter (200 cm)
- fixed glazing with roller shutter (250 cm)

Unfortunately, our window manufacturer has now informed us that a plastic roller shutter is not possible for the fixed glazed element due to its size. An aluminum element is necessary. This is also available in the same RAL color. We are now considering equipping the 2-leaf balcony door with an aluminum roller shutter as well. However, the remaining roller shutters in the house we would keep in plastic for cost reasons. That means on the floor above there will be plastic roller shutters.

Do you think this will be very noticeable?

Thanks, regards

Nope, not much. Only those who look closely and/or have an eye for it will notice. It’s just sensible to watch out for the wallet here.

In my opinion, this is noticed almost exclusively by you personally. In most houses of acquaintances that I have looked at, the dialogue arose:
Builder: "well, we had to do it 'such-and-such' way because it couldn't be done otherwise"
Me: "ah yes" – and honestly, I would never have noticed it if I hadn’t been pointed out to it deliberately; and therefore I have become more relaxed with my own project as well.

That will only become noticeable in a few years when the [kunststoffrollladen] has warped and faded.

It definitely stands out. For me, it would be an absolute NO GO. Just like not having a shutter on individual windows. But everyone has to decide for themselves whether the extra cost is worth it. For us, the extra charge was not that high at all.

Plastic will, according to experience, yellow or fade to a greater extent than coated aluminum. If at all, I would do it facade by facade, then it won't really be noticeable even after years.
