Hello,
we would like to plant a hedge but do not know which plants are particularly suitable for this. It can also be something extraordinary. Maybe someone here has ideas for us. We would like to benefit from your experiences. ;)

Hello gatita,

which plants you use best depends on various factors! The location is, for example, a decisive factor. This includes the soil conditions, the climate, the altitude, and the water supply or the microclimate.

Shrubs should be about 60 to 80 cm tall when planting, trees 2-3 m tall.

You should choose native plant species, as you will then have fewer problems with pest infestation.

There are many hedge plants. For example:
- Lorbeerkirsche (Prunus laurocerasus)
- Buchsbaum (Buxus)

It is important that the plants are hardy and evergreen.

Best regards,
Gartenbau :)

hi,

my parents also have a house with a small plot of land, which is enclosed by a fence. however, this fence really looks bad now, and I plan to at least border part of the garden with a hedge. could you name some plants that are suitable for this and do not require special care?

best regards,
listchecker :)

hi,

Apart from the fact that a hedge helps to enclose a property, one must not forget how useful hedges are in terms of species conservation. In addition, hedges also provide nesting opportunities for birds. ;)

Hi!

I would use boxwood or cotoneaster for that. Depending on the height of the hedge. For larger hedges, I would rather take the boxwood. I think it looks better. But taste is subjective. Both plants are relatively low-maintenance and look good in both summer and winter.

Hi,

that's true: evergreen hedges guarantee that privacy is ensured even in winter. In general, it can be said that evergreen deciduous shrubs prefer a semi-shaded or even shaded location. The risk that they dry out is rather high.

Other plants that have proven to be good for creating a hedge are:

- Firethorn
- Evergreen barberry
- Evergreen privet

In order for a hedge to keep its shape, it must be pruned regularly. Apart from watering, this is the only effort.

Best regards,
Gardening :)
