You are funny... Among other things, you wanted critical opinions! Otherwise, I wouldn't have responded to a carpenter at all

.. that's so 70th these platforms ... do you at least have properly high rooms? It doesn't look so optimal in low rooms.

.. if you had asked in one of the technical forum sections ( or questions), then our question about the usefulness of the platform might not be appropriate. However, since you are in the planning/idea phase, I also find the question about room division and the usefulness of the platform interesting. Because basically, with it, you create a room within a room again in large rooms.

Hi,

I assume you have enough ceiling height to build such a platform.

I would definitely separate the heating circuits of the platform and the regular living room, maybe one day you, or a buyer of the house, will want to get rid of the platform again.

I see the transition from the "normal floor structure" to the platform as critical. You have a first-class thermal bridge from the warm screed to the substructure of the platform there. I would install a normal screed insulation as a vertical separating layer. So at least one layer of 60mm insulation. A vapor barrier will also be necessary there.

Do you have a basement?
Or is the KVH platform placed directly on the uninsulated floor slab? In the latter case, I would be afraid that the KVH starts to absorb moisture and rot.
Then definitely an energy consultant should take a look at it. You don’t want the dew point right in the wood like in a poorly insulated wall. That won’t work well in the long term.

If necessary, I might use aerated concrete blocks as a substructure, even if it hurts your professional pride. They also provide additional thermal insulation, and you won’t have a thermal bridge anymore from the "normal floor structure" into the KVH area.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the sound, you want to do the normal screed structure on top anyway, that should actually be enough.

Best regards,

Andreas
