Sealing, calibration, etc. in the past, one would simply hang any water meter on the outdoor water tap and that was that. Nowadays, it is only installed permanently and with the aforementioned requirements.

For us, for example, it is no longer allowed at all. The provider eventually decided that it is not worth the effort for them.

I recently placed a larger order there; the prefabricated parts are also great on the other hand. When I calculate the time to screw the parts together myself, the price quickly becomes reasonable.

For the rest, I fully agree with you, you can get that much cheaper elsewhere.

Whether a cistern is worthwhile also depends on the roof area. We are building a bungalow, so the roof area and the rainwater collected from it are considerably larger than, for example, with a city villa.

Nevertheless, I find the statement: "Water is cheap for us" somewhat unrealistic nowadays. One should certainly be careful not to "waste" too much water on their garden. Over time; this is certainly going to be the case with us; watering with drinking water will definitely be prohibited.

This will happen locally. But the buffering of heavy rain is also an issue. Here, retention cisterns are usually already required.
