Plan the pool during the house construction and build it later!

Hello everyone,

we are sure that sooner or later we want to have a pool in the garden. Now it makes sense to do the excavation and the base slab (foundation) during the house construction, as it becomes very difficult to get the large machines into the garden afterwards.

For cost reasons, however, we want to build the pool only in the coming years.

Is there a way to cover the excavation somehow or how would you do it?

Has anyone here had experience with this?

Hi, and then leave the excavation lying around for years?

As always, it will be more expensive later and you’re digging around in the finished garden. Either you can afford it or you can’t.

Leave it. I know the pool preparations in the basement of the relatives. The pool was planned, excavated, concreted. Then the money for further expansion was missing. Since the late 70s, the room has been used as a storage room or party room. When the money for the pool was available, it was no longer expanded. Because in public, after swimming, water aerobics, people go next door for a cozy get-together.

How wide would the passage to the garden be? Such a mini excavator can get through almost anywhere, and the excavation can be hauled away with a wheelbarrow. It takes a bit longer, but then you can do everything in one go if you really want to build the pool.

Hi, we arranged our pool at the same time as the house was finished and the landscaping began.

In my opinion, you cannot leave an excavation pit with a base plate open for years. At least we were advised against it because the walls could give way and collapse. And honestly... will you have 40-50k available again in two or three years? It’s better to do the pool right away and include it as part of the landscaping since the landscaping will be ruined anyway during the pool construction.

Important would be:

- Location of the heat pump (distance to the neighbor, noise level) and location of the equipment (which also involves noise). Plan both with an appropriate and not too long distance to the pool. We have a sort of second garden shed. However, the equipment can also be planned in the basement.

- Drainage! For backwash processes or possibly emptying the pool. Clarify whether you may be allowed to connect to the sewer.

- Cooperation with a local pool builder. They can assess what can be sensibly planned in advance. Without a professional, it is hardly manageable even if some do-it-yourself providers want to make you believe otherwise.
