Hello,

I am currently planning a garden shed and have come across a presumably simple question for which I have not found an answer despite searching the internet. Most of the information I find is about the distance to the neighbor and the maximum height.. but I want to know if you would place a garden shed/shed directly on the boundary? I have heard several opinions recommending a distance of 50-80 cm so that you can also walk around it/clean it. Do you see it the same way? I would prefer to place it directly on the fence so I don't lose any space, but I can also understand the argument of being able to walk around it. In my case, it would be in the corner, meaning on two sides there would be a fence or directly the neighbor.

What do you think?

There are interface points!
You are only allowed to build as many meters towards the neighbor as the state building code in your federal state generally permits and as the development plan allows, e.g. within the building window...
Do you know your rules?

:D It’s not about legally regulated distances. I know that I could place it directly on the boundary line, etc. I’m more concerned with the question of whether a small distance, so that you can walk around the house (to remove dirt, etc.), would be your recommendation. The house is neither too high nor too wide. This is purely a practical question. For example, the neighbor built his garden shed everywhere 1 m away from the fence and said that was good so he can easily clean around it. I wanted to know your experiences on this :)

I would build at a distance from the border and consider the border installation separately. I like the idea of being able to invisibly store certain things between the garden shed and the fence, for example wood or leftover paving stones, etc. In addition, in the event of a dismantling, a gap would not immediately appear in the fence.

Thanks. Either way, the house would not replace the fence but stand "directly at the fence." Storing things there would probably rather cause displeasure with the neighbor because he would then look at stones and wood, but it is of course an option, if necessary with privacy screening on the fence.

Unfortunately, I have to quote the entire post. Otherwise, I don't get an answer field to see. Logic tells you that it's practical to keep the little house accessible from all sides if possible. Unless you know the neighbor well and are allowed to work on his property when something needs repairing. It's also not very courteous to drain water onto the neighbor's property without asking if the roof slope should go that way or to leave the weeds to him because you can't reach them. The garden looks visually larger if you can see that it continues behind the little house. Old planner's wisdom: what looks small you divide at least once more. :D In my opinion, there is hardly any good reason to squeeze the little house into the corner.
