Living self-sufficiently. Never paying for electricity and rent again. That’s the dream of our building families. We always recommend that you also rely on a photovoltaic system here. Clean electricity is, after all, a fine thing – especially when it is self-produced.

Of course, with a photovoltaic system, the total budget for your house construction project also increases. In the long run, it pays off. But: Is that really true?

What experience have you had? Do you really live energy self-sufficiently?

Energy self-sufficient? 100% I want to see the system.

Those who have no house connection live self-sufficiently.

I think the word autark is poorly chosen.

A more accurate term would be:
Energy costs covered by photovoltaic system.

A photovoltaic system consists of self-consumption with a 15-35% share and feeding into the power grid.

Both combined usually lead to €0 energy costs.
The investment itself is recouped in 8-10 years with a favorable system price. After that, you operate in the positive zone until the end of the 20-year term.

We ourselves have a 9.85 kWp system on the roof. Previous electricity consumption (household + heating with an old air heat pump) approx. 7000-8000 kWh per year.

The system generates just under 10,000 kWh of electricity per year.

Thanks to the photovoltaic system, we can cover about 30% of the former 8000 kWh electricity consumption through the photovoltaic system.
2400 kWh self-consumption.
At a current electricity price of €0.25 - savings of almost €600 per year.
For the remaining 7,600 kWh electricity from the photovoltaic system, we receive €0.123 feed-in tariff per kWh.
This corresponds to almost €900 remuneration per year.

The still required 5,600 kWh electricity from the socket costs me €1,400.

Thus, I am almost €100 in profit per year.

I have not included the tax aspect in my back-of-the-envelope calculation.

A current photovoltaic system costs from 5 kWp upwards about €1100 - €1300 per kWp. (Net).

To be honest, I don't understand your calculation? You pay €1,400 and receive €900. Thus, you have costs of €500 per year. One is currently quite far from a break-even calculation.

He saves €600 through self-consumption and receives €900 per year in feed-in tariffs. He spends €1400 on purchased electricity. That makes €100 plus.

But this calculation is pure romance, just like the topic of self-sufficiency in general.

The only decisive factor is the return on the photovoltaic system itself, and that can easily reach 5%. The profit, however, lies in purchasing, i.e. buying from the specialist and not from the local electrician (or from the house provider or electricity supplier).
