Technical differences: The yield per area is about 100Wp/sqm, which is lower than with the top panels, because the surface coverage with monocrystalline photovoltaic elements per sqm is lower. The system operates in the low-voltage range – therefore, in case of fire, the house can be extinguished. The system is less sensitive to shading due to the many small individual modules (which is not a problem in our case). The technology from control through inverter to storage is not dependent on the type of photovoltaic panels, so I see no technical difference there. I cannot technically identify a "worse" option as long as the roof area is sufficient. I see the "more expensive" as an investment in the house’s aesthetics – just like a wooden cladding or a special paint job.
