Oh, somehow I seem to have missed the notification for this thread

Thanks for your answers. We have a meeting with the general contractor next week, so I will at least bring it up then. But probably without much hope that anything will be changed

That really doesn’t sound very appealing :-( . But it’s not that unusual, right?
Do you think we have a real chance of finding a provider with a better payment plan?

Our payment plan has 4 installments
1st installment 40% after completion of shell construction including carpentry work
2nd installment 30% after completion of rough installation including interior plaster
3rd installment 20% after completion of screed, tiling work
4th installment 10% after full completion

Our payment plan was/is also much more advantageous for us. In a few words: No advance payment. 55% after shell construction with roofing. 15% final installment. Those who do not try to negotiate have already lost.

A payment plan is certainly important, but in my opinion not decisive. Much more important, in my opinion, is that the company is reputable, you possibly have references, etc. What good is a great payment plan if it only causes trouble afterwards.

Almost everyone who gets really big problems from a construction project has an unfavorable payment plan. There have been plenty of examples here in the forum recently. An advantageous payment plan not only protects the builders from significant financial losses but also from being stuck with defects. And there are no faultless contractors. For me, the payment plan is one of the most important parts of the contract.

I didn't say that he doesn't matter, but it is not decisive which company I build with. I pay more attention to how long the company has existed, possibly experiences of others, etc., rather than who has the best payment plan.
