Hello

Yesterday I assembled a swing frame made of KDI wood which is now supposed to be fixed with ground anchors. However, I am not entirely comfortable placing the 6 round wooden feet directly on the lawn, as they would eventually start to rot...

Would you, for example, rather put them on a 30x30 cm paving slab (then you would just need to cut the round wooden feet straight at the bottom since they stand angled on the ground) or remove the sod and throw gravel on it (then at least the wooden posts can grip better)?

Wouldn't it be better to pour a foundation under the 6 supports?

I don’t want to fix it permanently; the ground anchors are there for securing the scaffolding... And 6 point foundations just to keep the swing “rust-free” is comparatively too expensive and too complicated, furthermore there is a drainage system running underneath, and I would rather not make a point foundation right over a pipe that I might not see when digging the hole. It’s also too inflexible for me if the swing should be moved somewhere else.
It stands firmly even without ground anchors and stayed put with 2 kids swinging wildly, but the ground anchors will go in before the wind ever blows it over.

If you properly coat the wooden feet, they will last for 10 years. After that, the swing will be discarded anyway, right?

Keyword: Constructive wood protection. This means that the wood should ideally have no direct contact with the ground and the construction should be designed in such a way that all wooden parts are sufficiently ventilated so that moisture can dry off quickly again.

But I couldn’t care less about all that crap; the safety of the children comes first for me personally. In other words, I would create pad foundations (which by the way cost practically nothing!) and concrete in post anchors. I would then screw the swing to these, thus ensuring the safety of my children and the best possible protection of the wood.

Well, I also have these ground anchors on our (2 swings + climbing rope + slide) and they have held up perfectly for 6 years. Even if 2 adults swing on them, nothing shakes; before the thing tips over, I would be more worried that the crossbeam at the top breaks, because it bends nicely then

Back then, I used leftover paving stones and placed them under the feet (I cut away the grass beforehand) so it stands level on one hand and on the other I don’t have trouble with overgrown grass at the base where the lawn mower otherwise couldn’t reach

I just checked earlier because of this topic here, and the foot points of the round timbers are still top notch

Hmm, post holders for such (in my case 12 cm) round timbers? I only know them to align them straight at 90 degrees, are there adjustable ones for the inclination (sounds expensive)? Because H-post holders, for example, would stick straight out of the ground and protrude above the round timber = risk of injury)
