Hello everyone,
Until now, I have been a silent reader in the house-building forum, but now I want to share my experiences with Pandomo / microcement design floors. Surprisingly, there are hardly any critical reports on Pandomo online – that is why I want to address some practical points here that you definitely should know before deciding on this floor.
Initial situation
My Pandomo floor was installed by an experienced specialist company in Middle Franconia. The installation itself went perfectly, the appearance exactly matched my expectations, and the joints were very nicely worked out. In the beginning, everything looked perfect.
Practicality
1. Stains caused by cats, liquids, and oils
• Cat stomach fluids: If a furball is not removed within a few minutes, permanent dark stains appear because the stomach acid penetrates the cement layer.
• Disinfectants: A single drop that falls on the floor for one second leaves a matte, irreversible discoloration.
• Cooking oils: Tiny oil splashes cause permanent dark stains, even if removed immediately.
• Rubber marks: Items with rubber coating (dumbbells, gym balls, anti-slip mats) leave dark or yellowish discolorations after a few days, which cannot be removed.
2. Scratches from everyday use
• Street shoes: My toddler sometimes walks indoors with street shoes – woe betide if there is a little stone in the sole! The result: Permanent scratches in the entrance area.
• Robot vacuum cleaners: Even high-quality models leave micro-scratches. When viewed against the light, the floor now looks as if it has been brushed.
• Office chairs: Using them without a protective mat is impossible, as the wheels immediately cause scratches and wear off the surface.
3. Structural problems & cracking
• The joints, which initially looked beautiful, have meanwhile cracked parallel to the joint with hairline cracks up to 1-2 cm thick.
• According to the applicator, the floor was supposed to develop a patina – what I did not know: the “patina” here means that the surface behaves similarly sensitive as latex paint and simply wears down heavily over time.
Cleaning & care
Of course, I use the recommended cleaning and care products from Pandomo, but these strongly smell of solvents and could not prevent or reverse the described problems.
Despite regular care, the floor looks heavily worn after 1.5 years.
Conclusion
In my experience, Pandomo is only suitable for households that can handle the floor extremely carefully. Anyone with pets, children, or everyday use with normal stress will probably be quickly disappointed. Of course, some of the points listed above also apply to parquet or similar, but with a Pandomo floor, you cannot sand and oil it yourself; you are completely dependent on a specialist company.
I am now considering sanding down part of the floor (the particularly heavily used areas) completely and having it replaced with large-format tiles. With a total of 300 sqm of Pandomo surface, this floor was an expensive mistake for our household.
I hope my experiences help someone with their decision – and I look forward to further opinions / experiences.
