Hello

We would like to paint a wooden wall in the bathroom and are a bit unsure. Can we simply paint it with regular moisture-resistant paint? We don't know if the wall was pretreated in any way before, only that it was painted.

On the moisture-resistant paint cans, there are always different wall types listed but never wood.

Thank you very much in advance

Oh, and it is possible that from time to time water splashes might reach this wall.

Best regards
Adria

Hello,
what do you mean by "Holzwand" (boards, panels?) and should the paint be transparent or opaque (colored)?

And what do you mean by paint cans? There is moisture-resistant paint in [FarbEIMERN]... that is wall paint, not intended for wood. And is the wood glazed or painted? If it is a common wooden paneling from the 70s, natural wood-colored, then it is glazed: you would need to prime and apply the corresponding glaze or paint. But this is just a guess, since the relevant information or at least a photo is missing. Regards, Yvonne

Should it be a glaze that can withstand limited moisture, herbol premium interior glaze open-pored, various shades. Super quality for this color category. Easy to apply. If the wall is truly allowed to get wet, then we reach for a different caliber. Hempel brilliant gloss. This is a boat-building varnish paint, top shelf, totally glossy even under full sun, can withstand saltwater, but seals the wood; however, due to its PU structure, it is quite elastic and works with solid wood without cracking. It is, however, demanding to paint, high gloss in kitchen furniture foil quality does not forgive brush mistakes. You sand the wood smooth up to 300 grit, dust it off with acetone or similar and Swiffer cloths, apply two coats of gloss strongly thinned, order the appropriate thinner as well, then two to three layers only 10% thinned pure. There are special painting rollers available in specialist trade, which also make it manageable for amateurs. The result is a highly high-gloss wall on which you can hold the garden hose.

First of all, thank you very much for the answers. I didn't expect there to be so many right away!

So about the wooden wall... our house is a prefab house and the walls are made of wood. So not boards or panels but wooden walls. Part of the walls in the bathroom is tiled and part is wallpapered and a small area by the window is basically "naked," just painted, and we want to repaint that.

Sorry, I had to google what lasieren means first. We’d rather go with opaque paint.

And sorry, by paint cans I meant paint buckets oops:

the Hempel brilliant gloss sounds really interesting!!! But in our case, I think it’s still a bit too daring.

Best regards
Adria

How large is the area to be painted? Should it be glossy, satin, or fully matte? How wet will it get? If it is larger, then use something classic, solvent-based. Not drying too quickly. Why? The paint should level out. The brush or roller marks should smooth out on their own. Good paint dries slowly and has time for that. Water-thinned acrylic paints dry too quickly, in a flash, and you can see that. Satin or matte is more forgiving during application. It does not reflect, and small imperfections hardly show. High gloss is advanced.
