Hello builders, DIY enthusiasts, and craftsmen,

I am facing the decision whether to have my soon-to-be finished house painted with silicate paint by the construction company, as stated in the purchase contract, or to paint it myself and receive a credit of 2000 €.

The question now is what is worthwhile..
The area to be painted is about 206 sqm
I can get the scaffolding for free!

I first looked at a Brillux silicate paint.
Then a friend told me that the house brand Renovo (from Hagebaumarkt) comes from Brillux.
Does anyone have experience with that and can give me more information?!

Could a silicate paint from Renovo be of good quality?

That would mean it might be worthwhile to paint it myself! Since the Brillux paint is already very expensive.

What would one generally have to calculate for about 206 sqm if painting with a good paint. Of course with primer

Thanks in advance for your answers

Hi,
without knowing the exact paint prices, a 2000 euro credit, so 10 euros / sqm, doesn't seem like much to me. The paint manufacturers specify consumption (so many ml of paint per sqm). As a layman, just casually add a third on top of that and then you can calculate roughly how much paint and primer you might need to buy. And don't forget that you need rollers and cover sheets for the windows. I wouldn't be surprised if not even 500 euros remain. I certainly wouldn't stand there and paint it myself for that. Especially in this lousy weather, it's not easy...

Best regards,

Andreas

With primer and proper silicate paint or silicate dispersion, not much of the 2000 EUR will remain. Let it be done, the effort certainly does not correspond to the money saved.

If you do not want to drill new holes in the freshly plastered facade, your scaffold must be the same length as the currently erected one.

Thanks already for your answers!

It would only be worth it if the following were confirmed. If that is really true (and it is common nowadays that expensive paint from well-known manufacturers is bottled as private labels [Eigenmarken] of hardware stores), that the private label paint Renovo from Brillux is bottled. That would definitely be worth it, I think.
-Renovo Silicate Facade White 10 l, for 60-76 sqm, 50 €
- Renovo Silicate Primer, 5 l, for 50 sqm, 20 €

For a wall area of about 206 sqm I would need:
About 4 x primer = 80 €
About 4 x paint = 200 €

(If you had to paint twice!, which might not be the case with bottled Brillux, it would be 400 € for paint)

I get the scaffolding for free.
And with a little tape and stuff, in the worst case I wouldn’t get over 700 € (badly calculated)
And I also still get 20% at hagebaumarkt :P

What do you think about it? And especially about the Brillux / private label bottling!?

Is this the area that you can paint according to the manufacturer? Then you can certainly mix double the amount of paint for the first coat. When masking off, it is not the material that is the problem, but rather the execution. Primer on the window is really not pleasant to remove. For the saving, a relatively high effort...
