Hello everyone,

our house will be finished in a few months. I would like to make the basement somewhat livable. For this I will tile it (the builder’s price was too expensive for me). I would like to paint the walls. But since everything is brand new, I am afraid that the paint will seal the walls so much that sooner or later I will get a mold problem.

Should I wait until everything is dry or can I start right away with the appropriate paint? The basement of our house is insulated and constructed as a [weiße Wanne].

Thank you very much for your help!

Should I perhaps use lime paint or can I also use dispersion paint?

Describe your basement in more detail. Which screed? Has the screed already dried completely?

So the basement of the semi-detached house is structured as follows:

The three exterior walls are made of waterproof concrete. The interior walls are constructed as stud walls with plasterboard panels with single layer cladding. I don't know which screed is used. But it is not installed yet. It will be done in October. Moving in is not until around May 2021. We want to tile the basement before moving in.

If the interior walls are going to be made with drywall anyway, then just fill and sand the walls, then prime everything and paint with normal but good paint.

What should become of the large room? If it is meant to have a cozy character, I would plaster all the walls including the exterior walls. That’s how we did it. As a storage room see above.
