Can you explain a bit more about what happened? According to Stiftung Warentest, most paints should be okay from €30 onwards.

Hello Der Da,

You haven't painted often yet ;) Cheer up, it will never happen to you again; next time you'll spend more money right away, because painting once is already exhausting enough

Rhenish greetings

Ok, Sto is already a good tip. Does anyone else have good or bad experience with a brand?

I have painted many times before, but usually only 2-3 rooms, not an entire house. The result is convincing, but the process was a nightmare. When you buy a paint that isn't cheap, but then doesn't cover well, or is way too thick, dries too quickly, etc., you get annoyed at your false stinginess. Today, I would gladly pay the extra 500 €, but work with professional paint instead. Such a STO bucket costs about 65 € as far as I remember, but you also make progress faster and need a bit less paint. It makes a difference whether you have to paint 600 sqm once or twice. In the end, your enthusiasm just runs out :)

Which paint I like to use: Max Bahr own brand with the green lid. However, I have only ever used it in rental apartments where 5 tenants had already painted before, and I usually only had to touch up a few rooms

We had the white paint from Aldi and colored paint from Tedox. We only had to paint twice where the wallpaper underneath was not white. Actually, you’re supposed to use more expensive paint, but we made sure it had the Blue Angel label and asked around among friends, and everyone was satisfied... and so are we :o

Hello kaho674,

of course I would also recommend the eco-friendly paint. At least for the main living and bedrooms. I would (if the money is allowed to decide) paint the hallways and adjacent rooms with low-emission paint ([Blue Angel]).

If the substrate is plaster or gypsum, however, I would completely avoid dispersion paint and wallpaper and use silicate paint (or lime paint), because wallpapers and dispersion paints seal the wall, while silicate (or lime paint) allow moisture to pass through, which is absorbed and released again by the gypsum or plaster. This measure improves the indoor climate.

best regards,

K.Brodbeck
