Hello,

what is actually the optimal temperature that should be set for the refrigerator and freezer?

I have read that 5 degrees or 7 degrees is recommended for the refrigerator

For the freezer, 18 degrees should be optimal

What would you say are the optimal temperatures?

I would put a minus sign in front. We have the fridge set to +8, which is enough for milk and stuff. Although we also still have two 0-degree compartments in the fridge.

Of course, otherwise it would be a bit bad. We currently have the fridge set to 7 degrees but do not have a 0-degree zone. I had only read that the European Union would recommend 5 degrees but that 7 degrees would be sufficient here. That’s why I wanted to ask how you do it and what would be optimal (regarding food and energy consumption). Freezer -18 degrees okay?

okay. I've set it like that too. And the refrigerator to 7 degrees. We also have Biofresh compartments. You should only pay attention to the moisture supply, as there is an adjustable lid installed.

My fridge is set to 4°C, the freezer compartment to -22°C. If you have a specially tempered 0°C zone, you can set the rest to 7°C, yes. If you don't have that, the 0°C zone only achieves 3-4°C less than the rest of the fridge. So at 7°C you actually have a 3-4°C zone, which can already be too warm for fresh meat.

Power consumption should be irrelevant at this point. If food spoils every week, that's much more expensive than setting the fridge 2 or 3 degrees colder.

Besides, Coke, beer, and Radler simply taste better at 4°C than at 7°C. And at 50kWh per year that my fridge might consume more at 4°C than at 7°C, I allow myself this little luxury.

Much more important for consumption is, by the way, to maintain the distance to the wall recommended by the manufacturer. Too little or too much increases consumption.
