Open living-kitchen area and controlled residential ventilation. Odors?

Hi!

We are thinking of an open living and kitchen area. This is also offered by many construction companies. There is probably also a controlled residential ventilation system included. How is it with kitchen odors? I mean, if I now fry hearty meat, nasty smells can definitely arise.

Can someone post their experiences? Does the whole living area then stink?

Hello Phobos,

if properly distributed, the exhaust air is located in the kitchen and it is not redistributed inside the house but expelled outside. However, care should be taken that the exhaust air vent is not located directly above/next to the stove so that no grease is sucked in.

Regards,

Sebastian

First, you have to work on your cooking technique Then it doesn't stink But seriously. Above the stove, you should have a recirculating extractor hood to "catch" the fat And then it is usually like this: the exhaust air is pushed out of the house at one end, and hopefully fresh air is drawn in elsewhere. For us, it's around a corner of the house. But I've seen pictures of botched jobs, where both were placed right next to the chimney with a 10cm gap on the roof. So exhaust and supply air are separate ducts... at least that's how I know it.

and how is it generally with open-plan kitchens and the typical kitchen smell? In my current kitchen, despite the extractor hood, there is still occasionally a real haze in the kitchen. Of course, the living-kitchen area is about three times as large. But I can well imagine that everything smells like cooking here too.

Sure, it also smells good with controlled residential ventilation. It can't work miracles... but it can eliminate odors in winter without you having to freeze. And in general, all living areas get fresh air, all utility rooms (bathroom, kitchen, utility room) get exhaust air.

When my daughter wants fish sticks again, it smells like that too, but after an hour everything is back to normal without doing anything.

Ok. Clear again in an hour or two. I can live with that. That makes my decision-making easier.
