So I’ll put it this way: you could talk to both. With Viebrockhaus, everything was possible for an extra charge and you could book various things. However, at that moment their offer was set in stone. They always referred to the special quality and great planning. In the end, they simply listed all their USPs to justify the prices. The regional general contractor was basically very flexible and also gave us a lot of leeway with self-performed work. We also had a fixed price there. However, smaller additional items (roof window, additional shutter at one window, etc.) were accepted without extra charge in the end. Ultimately, we were able to reduce the price by almost €4,500 overall and rounded it to a neat sum. Finally, it should be mentioned that after weeks of silence, Viebrockhaus got back to us. They asked if we were satisfied with the offer and now wanted to sign the contracts. I said then that the offer was too high and we had decided on someone else. The gentleman on the phone couldn’t understand that at all and immediately asked on what basis we had decided. When I mentioned that the price was about €10,000 lower for better building materials, they immediately relented and promised us the same price plus a few nice extras. But we still declined, as doing self-performed work would have come at the expense of the warranty.Hi, how is the willingness to negotiate from the two providers? Were you able to renegotiate anything? Of course, everything can always be adjusted upwards, but was there room for negotiation? Or is it always a take-it-or-leave-it offer?
