Hello everyone,

which "cozy" and affordable flooring could be (self) installed in a new build hobby room?

For example, we were advised against laminate due to the moisture in the basement.
What about cork or carpet?

Any other suggestions?

Thank you.

Hi!

Why do you have moisture in the basement of a new build?

Otherwise, cork and carpet would not be an alternative either. And what exactly is "cozy" about laminate?

I would strongly base the flooring in the hobby room on the usage. What kind of hobby do you have – aquaristics or weightlifting?

You can install, besides roll goods (carpet, PVC), everything that "clicks" (linoleum, parquet, laminate, cork...).

The differences lie in durability, appearance, price...

If you have ever looked at (used) carpet under a microscope, however, it’s ruled out.

Best regards,
Tomtom.

Well, nowadays new houses are built at lightning speed, of course the house is not dry after just a few months.
It is therefore only the normal moisture that arises when building a house.
It was said that we should ideally wait 6-12 months before laying a floor covering. But since the room is to be used immediately, waiting is out of the question.
So we need a floor covering that allows moisture to pass through.

The hobby room is used as follows:
Party room
TV room
Foosball table
Pool table

Does anyone have any other ideas?

A vinyl floor that is laid on a special mat is very well suited. Because all click systems that are built on an MDF or HDF board are sensitive to moisture and therefore require a professional vapor barrier.

Hi!

And that's logical now? So you assume that your building is still damp - and you don't worry that your health will suffer or your furniture will mold, but about the floor covering in the basement.

At the time, we chose dehumidifiers as a solution - after 14 days everything was dry and ready for covering.

By the way: A vapor barrier and/or "special mat" protect against (permissible) residual moisture in the screed - nothing more and nothing less.

Best regards,
Tomtom.
