The question is what he actually meant by that. Because "Wasserfilteranlage" can mean so many things.

It is undisputed that these one-time and operating costs accumulate. However, I immediately question that they should be considered "high" in the overall context of "house construction" and "operating costs." The softened water must also comply with the Drinking Water Ordinance (TrinkwV). A water treatment system that does not treat the water (does not influence the quantitative composition) is not a water treatment system. Well, correctly speaking, almost 40% comes from surface waters; that should not be underestimated.

We have a water softener. Installation and purchase were around 2,000 EUR. Maintenance costs less than 100 euros per year. In our case, you need about 4 bags of salt tablets per year, each bag costing 15 euros. I can live with that. When I looked at the taps in our old apartment in the same town after one year and see them today, the purchase has more than paid off. There is a huge difference especially in the kettle, the taps, and the showerhead. Before, I had to dissolve the limescale from the nozzles in the showerhead individually every 3 months. Although hardness level 16 can be even worse ...

Thank you for your numerous responses!

Yes, exactly. We have been drinking only from glass bottles for a long time now. Besides microplastics, it just tastes better :)

I could live with that too! But is it a pure descaling system without filtering properties?

I have done some research and found a few interesting water filters. These flow-through filters are not an option for me, but some look very interesting and above all uncomplicated. I will keep you updated!

You have unfortunately not yet answered whether you will obtain water from the [Wasserwerk].

A little more mustard on that:

The drinking water quality in [D] is excellent, no food is better monitored and it is not relevant for the risk of microplastic intake. You have probably ingested more than a yearly dose from the drinking water if you once put your fingers in your mouth in the summer after handling a cream or cosmetic. Sometimes it helps to put things into perspective. I have friends who swear by a combination of reverse osmosis and EM. If you are interested in the topic, take a look in that direction. I find it interesting, have researched a lot and heard things ranging from interesting to adventurous, but somehow it still isn’t important enough to act.

If you do not use drinking water (therefore the question from is relevant), it is a "must" to deal with the quality.
