As far as the requirement "my house should not overheat" is concerned, there are many possibilities for demand-oriented shading: sensible glass surfaces, roof overhangs, building projections, add-on parts, full-surface photovoltaics on the roof, venetian blinds/screens, trees, etc. Only when these options have been exhausted would an air conditioner be an option for me. Not for dogmatic reasons, but pragmatic ones – what is not necessary, I do not have to plan, buy, and operate... and it also cannot break down ;)

Hi there!

We built the combination you gave us in 2020.
We have an air-to-water heat pump with integrated ventilation, but a separate air conditioning system with an outdoor unit on the carport. After extensive research, this seemed to us the most sensible option.
Many people here (who don’t have air conditioning) will try to talk you out of getting air conditioning. Personally, I would _anytime_ build with air conditioning again; we used it a lot and are very glad to have it.
What goes excellently with air conditioning is a photovoltaic system. At the times when you run the air conditioning, the sun is almost always shining on the roof. :)

I can understand your attitude and most people in my environment feel the same way. But I know myself and would probably regret more not having something that is complicated to retrofit than the other way around ;)

hm basically you are right. There are many options so that the sun does not shine directly, but an air conditioner costs only a fraction of the options you mentioned. Especially since, as Kati wrote, the operating costs are almost zero due to the surplus from the photovoltaics. In the end, everyone has to decide that for themselves :)

Are those special air-to-water heat pumps that can do that? When I searched for ventilation and heat pumps, I always found air-to-air heat pumps instead of air-to-water heat pumps.

We have a Tecalor THZ 504. Room heating is via underfloor heating, the ventilation is a separate system, but it is a combined unit.
