I find the idea appealing and interesting.

As said, it was initially just a fundamental question. It was clear to me from the beginning that it is most likely not sensible, let alone economical. This project is not meant to be carried out now (especially since it is not yet clear how), but preferably within this decade. It will probably involve a basement under the garden around the house and possibly under the conservatory/ garage.

Purely out of interest: what are you planning to do with this additional (living-?) space in the basement? The one on the second level wouldn't get any natural light at all – what's the appeal here?

The lower part is intended for an underground parking garage (also accessible to the adjacent rental buildings). The part above as a large workshop/ storage and laboratory. Also, I somehow like such buildings.

Okay, that already sounds like something more "special interest" than the usual single-family house with a basement :-) What area are we talking about?

I would recommend a non-binding conversation with an architect or civil engineer who plans large projects to help you get a better idea. Very few will be able to help you based on experience here.

Yes, special is probably the right word. So the house footprint is about 100 sqm and then there are 2000 sqm of garden added. It shouldn't all be built over (I think then I would also destroy the root system and there are a lot of beautiful fruit trees), but about 40 - 60%.
