What actually happened to the bushes and the neighbor?
They are still there and were only trimmed back as much as necessary at the time. The neighbor also offered to remove them. But I left it as it was for now, and meanwhile the bushes have naturally formed a kind of "fence." I rarely see the neighbors during the week, and when I do, we sometimes have a beer together. So everything has turned out for the best.
Yes, such a hedge is a benefit for everyone, even if it stands unplanned on the new property. I would have liked to have 's tree, but there was only farmland here. Everything grows very slowly.

My wife propagated a cutting from a walnut tree after we moved in... after 3.5 years the "tree" is now 1 meter tall... it will still take a little while before it provides shade and I can sit under it...
Is it your hedge now? So, have you more or less annexed / appropriated / inhaled it?
Actually, we do it so that everyone takes care of their own side alone. There is also no one to whom the hedge now "belongs"... of course, it is largely on my property, but as I said, it can stay there now and is fine for all sides.
