Did he say how? Did he say that or is it your assumption? I mean, not everyone wants a flat roof or a building block, and for many a gable roof house is still a house that looks like a house and gives a feeling of security. Not everyone has to be jealous because they are afraid of losing their view, the neighbor’s height, or whatever. Maybe he is just exercising his veto right, as everyone else is allowed to. THAT would make me suspicious in your place.

If it was like that for you, then that's okay. I thought the OP had it that way in the offer. Because I still believe that flat roofs are more expensive than pitched roofs

That does not seem to be generally the case (anymore). We had the same concern back then, but the pitched roof was definitely not cheaper for us. Therefore, it should always be considered individually. Additionally, for comparison: we have a flat roof with greenery, approximately 9x12m.

So "apples and oranges" – or would the gable roof also have been greened?

Elefant, what are you getting at? A flat roof can be externally or internally greened, gravelled, covered with artificial turf, or set up in a completely different way or without any of that. I just wanted to add the information about how we executed it. It doesn't make much difference whether I had compared a gravelled flat roof or a greened flat roof with a gable roof since the differences were marginal in terms of cost. We were initially offered gravelled, the surcharge for greened was practically not worth the new version of the offer.
But all this will vary individually depending on the construction partner; I never intended to say more than that a blanket statement flat roof = more expensive does not have to be true.

I actually find it very informative, because a greened flat roof has, not only in my eyes, more value than a flat roof without greening. In this respect, only a pitched roof covered with tiles is being compared here with a flat roof that is EVEN greened. The comparison is not equivalent to different fruits but rather, say, to the vitamins you can get one way or the other (in terms of roofing) :)
