That they are sick to death has already been mentioned here several times. No one has yet claimed to be an expert on trees, but thanks for identifying the tree species.

And yes, it’s all about the tone...

The cones also look like spruce cones to me, so they would be evergreen trees and therefore these specimens would be dead. Would they fall somewhere if they did fall? I can't really accept arguments about dirt and children. Only a danger to surrounding buildings, for example. You don't go under trees during a storm. Otherwise, I don't see a problem here. You even have permission to cut, so just do it.

To me, the spruces in the pictures look as if the pests bark beetles or engraver beetles were already at work anyway. If your neighbor does not remove or have removed the infested trees by the first flight in May, the remaining trees will be completely dead within a few months anyway. So you don't need to do anything, just wait. In Austria, it is punishable if someone does not care when trees in their own property are infested.

A little tip for continuing to survive in a forum: read everything before replying and make sure that not everyone has already nailed the tone ;) The tip has actually been given at least 5 times, even on page 1 ;)

On the one hand, a neighborhood is something different from a forum; if a new neighbor appeared at my place and complained about suddenly appearing 15-meter spruce trees, feared being hit by "pine cones" etc. etc., the good neighborly relations would be poorly maintained. But rest assured, if I receive explicit, factual, and well-founded answers here, I will always express my thanks in a friendly and polite manner. Thank you
