Middle purlin too long? Looking for an option without a pillar in the middle of the room

Hello dear house building forum,

we are currently desperate with our floor plan planning.
The approval plans were already signed when feedback came from the technical inspection (developer).
The room length of the bedroom/workroom, or the length of the central purlin running through it, would be too long (approximately 660cm, may only be 600cm).

With our architect, we have now tried to work out options, but none of them are really ideal.

Attached is the first plan, how we wanted to use the dressing room with window as a workroom, without a wall, possibly optically separated by a closet.

Since the central purlin is now apparently too long, a post would have to be inserted (post option), which we definitely do not want.
Now with this option there is still the possibility to "hide" the post with an interior wall. Only if we run the wall from bottom to top, the light from the work window is very hidden. Running the wall from top to bottom would let the light through, but then you would always look at the desk from the bed, which is also unattractive.
The last option (move wall) that occurred to us, since the length of the central purlin is the problem, why not simply move the wall of the left children's room to the right so that the total length of the central purlin is exactly 600cm. The only disadvantage here is that the children's rooms are now asymmetrical and the desk moves further into the room. This means that we possibly can no longer place the closet as a visual barrier.

Do you have any ideas on how we can improve our planning here? Ideally so that no visible post has to stand in the middle of the room? :D

Thanks in advance :)

You’re bothered by a support, want to hide it with a wall, and then still are bothered by the view of the desk?
You would have seen the desk in all its glory in your first draft as well.

If I were in your position, I would have the support installed without a wall. Later, you can either leave it as a support or separate the rooms with cabinets. That way you’ll be more flexible.

The support must also rest on something that can transfer the load. What does the architect suggest?

Hi Phillipp, in the first plan we still had a cabinet planned as a room divider (you might see this in picture 1). Flexible is right, that would of course be an option. Hi Myrna_Lov, hmm, that’s a good point, on the ground floor there is initially nothing under this support beam (rather the middle of the kitchen, but no walls). The architect is somewhat at a loss here, she passes every question directly to the engineering team, which is why clarifying any options always takes a very long time :( I already asked if a supporting beam might be an option, but that apparently is not feasible, or the passage width would then be under 180 cm, which of course is no good either :)

Ah okay. I couldn’t quite place that. I thought that was already the changed version. Then I understand your pain with the support even less. It’s not a problem. Cupboard in front and that’s it. The cupboard isn’t off the shelf anyway, I suppose, so you can even cover the support if you want.

Why should it not be possible to make the intermediate purlin longer? In principle, they can be much longer. Maybe the cross-section would then have to be made larger.
