I measured everything again over the weekend. We had dug a bit more generously and ended up at 25-27 cm. Hope that is enough!

But it is bad to see that even so-called professional companies sometimes don’t do it any better. If I mess up myself, at least I know I can blame myself and didn’t throw away expensive money, but from companies you should expect everything to be done properly. Next weekend the paving will be done, then at least the driveway will be finished!

During the first shaking down of the ground, it still goes down a bit, so the gravel layer will definitely be thicker than 20 cm everywhere.

The specialist companies, unlike us, have to make a living from their work and be competitive. If the competitors also only lay even heavily trafficked areas with fine sand and fill the joints, and maybe even save on a frost-proof base, the "good" company with soil replacement and a gravel bed + joint falls by the wayside. Hardly anyone is willing to pay for quality anymore. Neither am I, because I do everything myself after long preparations.

By the way, I have noticed that the only consistently well-laid paved areas here can be found in the parking lots of the large grocery discounters - funny, isn't it?

Sorry, I hadn’t gotten back to you. But now I can report progress... Well, almost. We were lucky that we only had to cut stones on one side. On one side, we ended exactly at the garage! Extremely lucky. Two sides were on the edge anyway because of the laying pattern. Now we have to do the joints, compact them, and do the joints again, then it’s done.

On Saturday we worked for 10 hours straight because we always had to carry the stones a bit, nice muscle soreness on Sunday but it was worth it. The specialist who accompanied us a bit with advice was amazed at how well it turned out and even our building materials supplier told us it was top-notch and some professional companies work much worse. Something like 40 cm of base material dumped and compacted only once.

Now I’m curious if the daily use won’t reveal any flaws...

Just post a picture, it would be a fitting conclusion to this, in my opinion, very positive thread. From such contacts I gain the motivation to write something occasionally, even if some original posters never get back (as is common in other forums). I don't believe anything will happen with your path in winter and spring if you have worked diligently. Allegedly, it is supposed to be a harsh winter, so the real test for the new path right away...

Good morning,

Images should be uploaded by clicking on "Erweitert" and then under "Suchoptionen" at "Anhänge verwalten."

I wish you a good and speedy recovery, the appendix situation sounds awful. At least the timing was good!
I was happy to share my experiences as an amateur patcher, so see you at the next project after the "Winterschlaf"!

Regards
